Esperanza, which means hope in Spanish, provides full scholarships to four to five community parents to receive professional individual and group therapy. Therapy sessions are led by a licensed, Christian, and bilingual therapist and are designed to give each mother personalized help and support to care for herself and her family through a gospel lens.
Each parent receives 4-6 individual therapy sessions as well as 6-8 group therapy sessions either online or in person depending on the availability of the parent.
Our first offering of the Esperanza program in 2020 was a tremendous blessing to the five participating mothers and their families. One of those mothers had this to say about the program,
“I am so thankful for Alma Community Care. Earlier this year, death threats from our teenage daughter’s gang-member ex-boyfriend drove me to bouts of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and sleepless nights – all of which worsened my ongoing struggle with Lupus. It is very difficult for me to find help without health insurance, but thanks to Alma’s Esperanza program, now I can process my trauma with a therapist. I can get out of bed in the mornings, and I can confidently go outside my home. May God bless you for all that you’ve done for my family and me – you are a blessing to us all!”
